All Know about Hair Sun Protection

how capillary protection protect her hair from the sun and sea view tips tricks

Sun protection: if we think master the subject regarding the protection of our skin, everything becomes much more vague and imprecise when it comes to hair protection. Yet neglect this important step oh so could lead you to the traditional post-holiday hair loss, one that pharmacists know so well. So why, what and especially how to protect our hair on vacation, this is our topic of the day!

HAIR SUN PROTECTION & SEA

I admit that even I who have the nose in skincare products for quite a few years, the issue of hair protection during sun exposure was far from clear. Already, because the hair and the skin does not have the same structure and therefore does not have the same protection needs but also because ... as much for the protection of the skin is clear (we mark with the value of SPF and the action spectrum of the proposed filter UVA / UVB / IR) is far from being the case for capillary protection because there is no evidence officially validated by the authorities will allow us to measure and certify such protection. Place disentangling!

SHOULD PROTECT HIS HAIR SUN?
Without a doubt, yes! Here it is not question of marketing (brands sordid desire to sell us more useless products, is not it;), but a real need to protect the hair in the same way that our skin is protected. Of course, if you do not, you'll end up not bald after two weeks of vacation, but you risk atemporary hair loss , well known to pharmacists that are stored in non-food supplements fall for this time the year. Then, by dint of repeated unprotected exposure, you may seriously damage your hair fiber.

From my side, I noticed that if I did not protect my hair on vacation, I return with a poor state mane ... It was actually my yo-yo effect dreaded: in winter I can have well-heavy, thicker and healthier hair after the holidays they are much more "sparkling" and purposes. For 3-4 years, I leave with good hair routine, and I assure you I am not at all the same holiday returns!

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO PROTECT THE HAIR?
So logically we tend to turn to UV. This is not wrong, although it is far from the complete answer to the question. To understand this, I propose to separate the hair into two issue areas:

  • scalp ,  which houses the source of the hair vitality, bulb (normal hair protects 50-60% scalp, but it is not 100%)
  • length , material "partially dead" but which has its own operation

The scalp is de facto  a skin, so can take sunburn. It was he the source of hair falls because if we have fine hair or not very provided, no UV poorly we take over which damages the bulb.

Then the length. She is not afraid UV itself, but fears the association "Moisture + UV". What is wrong with this association? Water is the vector of oxygen. Once our hair is wet, we created a kind of highway for oxygen. And although the hair should contain 10-12% water in its structure, this water is "trapped" inside. Now, since the hair is a sponge (which is not the case of the skin), it will absorb water from the humid atmosphere or while swimming. And oxygen activated by UV is all it takes to oxidize! For this reason, before you even think to sunscreens, the first effective product to protect hair from the sun, it was hydrophobic (oil), because from the moment one stops the vector is cut short the process of oxidation.

PROTECTING THE HAIR?
In a good care of hair sunscreen, so we must both have the moisture barrier with hydrophobic molecules (oils or silicones), but also UV filters to protect the scalp.

AND DERIVATIVES?
When you get to your hairdresser or pharmacy, you rarely have just one hair spray protection, it generally offers the full range. But is it necessary, in addition to protection, buying derivatives? Yes I Do! And we'll know why:

SHAMPOO : on vacation, you wash your hair every day, if only to eliminate your hair oil and residual salt / chlorine sea & pool. The solar shampoo has a very gentle cleansing base to suit the frequent use. At the same time, this shampoo for washing should be well able to eliminate the fat (sebum, hair protective oil) usually quite difficult to dislodge. So this is a formula balancing between lightness and power. It really is a specific formulation "beach" that you can not really replace conventional shampoos

CARE OR AFTER SAMPOOOING : the (good) after solar shampoos are not content to soften and repair the hair, they deposit on the hair the hydrophobic film to prepare it for the next exposure and optimize the work of the protective spray

To summarize: the leave-in (protection) is the key product for a good capillary protection, that come with the products (shampoo / care) are not necessary but are highly useful.

HOW TO CHOOSE HIS PRODUCT?
Since all solar hair products contain the hydrophobic protection (either oil or silicones), we can not identify by the presence of UV filters in order to buy the most complete care possible. After all depends on your preferred brands. Unfortunately, not all offer full ranges in protection, often it is a hair oil, sometimes even without the UV filter which, as noted above, is very useful, even essential.

I was looking, I have not found a brand that offers complete solar capillary routine with hair spray containing clearly displayed UV filters, hydrophobic protection oil, and good after shampoo without silicones J ... 'have therefore selected three lines that I found the most complete and interesting.First, Redken:

A range consists of 3 products (shampoo / conditioner and protective spray). This range is focused on the protection of colored hair, so will suit those who have a beautiful color before going on holiday and want to preserve it.

For more natural / short formulas hand, there is the beautiful range of Biolage, a brand I like more (I'm trying to use their new shampoo Low Poo and I'm really super satisfied, I speak to you very quickly):

As with Redken, we have the shamooing, caring and protective spray, the winning trio.

Finally, the brand found everywhere, the legendary Rene Furterer with its beautiful sun that I had already tested in the past, and stayed completely satisfied:

Full range (silicone except for the protective spray that contains a little bit) which includes shampoo, nutri-repairer mask, spray hair protection, moisturizing mist no rinse is used in the evening. Then they feel so good sun, mmm!

Otherwise, in terms of the Best Hair Spray protection, I present this Lancaster Beauty Hair :

Ultra complete, it protects both the fiber as the scalp (complete protection UVA / UVB / IR, anti-moisture, anti-chlorine). Really the best !

In more simple, you have this Phyto Plage:

An oil that protects hair from humidity (anti-salt, anti-chrole, anti-UV).

So much for zoom on hair protection during our vacation. I thank Patrick Canivet, the Technical Director of the capillary division at L'Oreal, for agreeing to answer my (many) questions.
